The Power Of Online Auction Sites

Posted on 17. Mar, 2010 by Steve in Uncategorized

Online auctions have become a popular way for many people to make money. The online auction business model includes one party that allows you to sell your items for free, while another party bids to purchase them.

There a number of advantages of this online auction business model. A few of them are listed below.

When using an online auction site there are no limitations on who can bid for the product. Basically if you are selling a baseball card and you live in New York, you can sell it online and people from all over the world can bid on the baseball card. You may end up selling it to someone in England.

A seller in Japan can put up a doll on an online auction site that can be bid on by bidders that reside in the U.S.  The “cost” of participating in an auction is essentially zero. This advantage also increases the number of products and services that can be listed, leading to an increased number of sellers and bidders.

No time constraints:  Items can be posted on auction sites at any time of the day, and bids can be made on items any time of the day as well.  And since items are listed for usually one to 10 days, potential bidders have a lot of time to ponder their bid.

The amount of bidders in an online auction can be staggering. Due to the fact that the auctions are world wide and people can find items priced much lower than retail, it appeals to many people who what a product but don’t want to pay retail pricing. Also because people can just login from there home computer and bid, this makes it a lot easier than going to a store to try and find what they are looking for.

And on the flip side, online auction sites also attract a lot of sellers. People have learned that they can sell there products online for a lot more than they could by having a yard sale. Many times people don’t even know how much there stuff is worth. If you were selling a record collection at a yard sale you might get .25 per album, but online, people might see an album that they have been looking for, and be willing to spend $20 even $100 to get that album.

And, lets not forget how good it feels to win. Sure you may have really wanted the “garden weasel” but just knowing that you out bid and won the item can sometimes be more gratifying than actually receiving the product itself. There are a lot of people who enter online auctions for the sheer joy of beating other people in the bidding process.
